Rosalyn Haber was born on March 15,1931 in Polanka near Munkacs Czechoslovakia. Rosalyn was the only girl in her family with six older brothers who spoiled her and she adored them.
The day after Passover in 1944 she was helping her mother put away the Passover dishes as if they would be used the next year. The very next morning they were taken from their home by the Nazis and sent to the ghetto. They remained in the ghetto for six weeks until they were hoarded into cattle cars and sent to Auschwitz. Upon arrival in Auschwitz the men and women were separated. Rosalyn was told to lie about her age so she said she was 16. Her mom was with her in the camp for two weeks and the last time she saw her mother her mom made her promise to do everything to survive.
From Auschwitz Rosalyn was sent to Bergen Belsen and remained there until she was liberated by the British on April 15, 1945. After the war Rosalyn returned to Prague and was astonished to learn that by some divine miracle, six of her brothers had survived. Rosalyn was sent to an orphanage in England with her brother Alex. While there she worked at the Jewish Agency.
When Rosalyn arrived in the United States it was three days before Thanksgiving. She was thrilled to meet her three maternal uncles and astounded by the thanksgiving feast. She was so happy to have family in the United States.
During her life Rosalyn lived in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, California, Texas, Georgia and Florida. She was an accomplished interior designer who loved to travel. Rosalyn enjoyed cards, a multitude of friends but most of all her family. She was very involved in numerous charities and spoke to schools about her experience during the holocaust. She clamored for visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fiercely independent all of her life Rosalyn reluctantly accepted help in her later years from her daughter Leslie. Her grandson Danny arrived from South Africa just a few weeks before she passed and the timing was impeccable. He sang with Rosalyn, held her hand and most of all made her smile knowing that she was loved.
Rosalyn is survived by her three daughters, Leslie, Debra and Tina, six grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Harold. Rosalyn passed away peacefully on 3/1/2026.
