OBITUARY: KATZ, Israel Israel Katz of Atlanta, GA died at the age of 90 on Jan. 1, 2010. He is survived by his son Lee Katz of Atlanta, Ga, daughter Lynn Kempler of Flowery Branch, Ga. daughter Lisa Katz, of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. As a teen, Israel was very active in various Jewish youth groups and won several national debate competitions. He served in the military as an intelligence officer during World War II, parachuting behind enemy lines and obtaining intel for the troupes. Following the war, he graduated from Emory Law School with honors, and became a well-respected attorney and senior partner at Katz, Paller & Land. He practiced law until he retired at age 70 but continued to operate Seaboard Industries, Inc. until age 87. During the 1960's, Mr. Katz chaired the Democratic Party in Dekalb County and was offered a position with the Jimmy Carter White House team. He chose to stay in Atlanta, and there served the party in various capacities for many years. Mr. Katz, along with his pre-deceased loving wife, Annette, were lifelong supporters of numerous charities. Together they donated a library at the Atlanta Yeshiva, a science lab at the Hebrew Academy, and to the Marcus Jewish Community Center. Further, Mr. Katz was a significant contributor to Emory University's medical research efforts, where he received an award for fifty years of lifetime achievement. Israel Katz earned the respect of the many professionals whose careers he helped further and lead by example in his fair and honest dealings with others. He was loved by his family, and the community, and will be sorely missed. The graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery (Cascade Rd. SW at Pollard Drive SW, Atlanta 30311) on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rabbi Scott Colbert and Rabbi Julie Schwartz officiating. Online guest book may be signed at edressler.com. Arrangements handled by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta, (770) 451-4999.

| Martha Fagan | Jan 4 2010 10:56 am | | I was honored to know Mr. Katz through his association with Emory Law School and through his affiliation with the group of Emory Law School alumni who were veterans of World War II. He was an outstanding alumnus of Emory and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. | | | Marc Brumberg | Jan 4 2010 10:44 am | | Hello Lee,
My condolences and regards to you and your family at this time of morning for the loss of your Father. I had no Idea what a wonderfull and special man your Father was, but I do know what a wonderfull and special son you were to your Dad (whenever we talked it seemed like you were doing something for or to help your Dad) As you know I lost my Mother and Father a few years ago, even though I was not nearly as close to my parents as you were to yors, it really hurt, so maybey I know how lonely it feels right know, but this too shall pass. I hope to see you soon.
