  • OBITUARY:
    Raymond Donald Kurtz of Dallas, Georgia died December 31, 2010. He was 88. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth R. Kurtz; two daughters, Diane K. Allgood, also of Dallas, Georgia, and Carolyn A. Kurtz of Tucker, Georgia; and three sons, Stuart A. Kurtz of Marietta, Georgia, Jack S. Kurtz of Atlanta, Georgia, and Paul D. Kurtz of St. Augustine, Florida. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was his family. He will be greatly missed. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 23, 1921 to Marie and Joseph Kurtz. His mother, Marie Kurtz, a former vaudeville actress, was close friends with actor James Cagney, who asked to be and was named as godfather to Mr. Kurtz. Mr. Kurtz grew up in post depression New York City. He attended college, but immediately after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the marines. He served honorably for 3 ½ years in the Pacific theater, and saw action at Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands campaign, obtaining an honorable discharge at the conclusion of the war. He moved his family from New York City to Atlanta in 1956. Sign online guestbook at www.edressler.com. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to The American Cancer Society. Graveside services will be held on Sunday January 3, 2010, at 11 am. at Arlington Memorial Park with Rabbi Steven Lebow officiating.     I am sorry to hear the news about Mr. Kurtz. It's been many years but I recall his involvement & passion with his boys when they played basketball at DHHS, & have fond memories of that bygone era. My condolences to the family..
