  • OBITUARY:
We all wish we had that friend. The one who never forgets your birthday. Or your kids' birthdays. Who lights up when she sees you. Who knows how to really listen. Who has a wicked sense of humor. Who knows the best restaurants. Who gives of herself unconditionally. For so many of us, we didn't wish we had that friend, we had that friend with Courtney Sackin. Cori died September 25, 2017 in Atlanta, GA and our friend will be forever missed, forever remembered. She was born in Los Angeles, CA to Stevie and Stanley Sackin. After the Sackin family relocated to Atlanta, GA, Cori graduated from Riverwood High School and the University of Georgia as a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. Cori dedicated her career to helping others, first in Alzheimer care, then in elder care, and most recently as an intake coordinator and capacity building specialist at Care and Counseling Center of Georgia. To Cori, family meant both the family she was born to and her family of friends. To list all those she leaves behind would be impossible, her hug and reach was so vast. An on-line guest book is available at www.edressler.com. The family requests donations to the Care and Counseling Center of Georgia, www.cccgeorgia.org/cori-sackin; Chaya Mushka Children's House, www.chayamushka.org/elementarycori-sackin; or to the charity of one’s choice. A memorial service will be held on her birthday, December 5, 2017 in Atlanta, with other celebrations of life to be scheduled. Details to be announced. Arrangements by Dressler's, Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999.

dear Stevie and Stanley, I had the privilege of knowing you selfless ,wonderful daughter. My heartfelt sympathy to you and yours -Thinking of you and yours.
    MARVIN V. SACKINOct 3 2017 04:18 am
I know that the immediate family of my mom and other two sisters Samantha(Sam) and Alexandra (Alex), along with Jacob, Frankie, Jackie, Gloria, and Julian (who miss their Aunt immensely), along with those who have or will be part of the family, Tom, Arturo, and Katrina, along with our Aunts and Uncles across the globe, feel crushed by the sheer weight of this loss. Along with numerous family friends, co-workers and colleagues that had the pleasure of knowing my sister, there are no words in the English lexicon that would come close to the impact Cori had on all our lives. I thought I would have at least another 20-30 years before I would have to face sharing how much my dear sister has meant to me over the decades of our early life that we have shared, from our early bonding at tennis camp in 1984, when her broken ankle kept her out of action as our family moved from CA to GA, watching her pride in my son growing up to the fine man he is today, being there for me as I have learned to live with the loss of my wife Gena since 2008 when she passed, and enduring the passing of our Grandma Fanny, and then losing our father several years ago, Cori has been there for me, no matter what it was we endured all these painful losses together. So now what am I supposed to do without her in my life? I find myself still trying to call or text her, even though I know she is now beyond those planes of communication. Her sensitivity, selflessness, and endless compassion and empathy are traits that I loved about Her, and are traits I strive to emulate in my own life. As one of the many hearts that were broken a week ago, upon learning of my sisters passing, I am left with a heart pulsing and swelling with pride and honor, that I had the chance to really know what she was all about. Welcoming to our family with an open heart and loving unconditionally Gena, and now my dear Katrina are gifts of Cori for which I will forever be grateful. But that is just how she was. Fiercely loving, and protective of everyone's feelings, and considerate, thoughtful, and caring are only a few ways to describe my dear sister, who will forever reside in a special place in our hearts and minds. And very much her father's daughter, we would constantly share jokes and punchlines and quotes from Vacation, Fletch, and numerous other timeless films. My heart is fractured yet again, as I am Free-falling though the universe, in this time and place. I love you dear sister, now and forever more. Sorry Cori! As her little brother, whether it was lifting her dress and walking off, or saying just the thing to get her blood to boil, I always seemed to know how to get her riled up. So many good thoughts race thru my mind every time I reminisce about my life with my dear sister Cori. We have always been there for one another. Now all I have to do is think about her, and she is alive, now and forever. Love You.

Dearest Stevie,Samantha,Marvin and Alex, Cori was a joy to be around, she was happy, she was loving, she was thoughtful and very special. She loved her family with all her heart. Always a huge smile on her punim. I was lucky to know her as a little girl and as a woman. Being so far away from the Sackin family has always been difficult, but, they have always been in our hearts. All our memories are good ones. We shared many happy years, even from afar. Big love, Bobbie & Al Sapper & family

I really miss Cori. She was such a special person and had a way of making others feel special. In my last encounters with Cori she helped my family member with something. All I can say is she was incredibly caring and did a great job. The world has lost an amazing person.

I was privileged to have worked with Cori for a short time , and got to know her as a loving, kind and funny person. In the short time we worked together the thing that struck me most about Cori is she never had a bad thing to say about anyone! She was positive and accepting. She will be missed. Vivienne Kurland

My heartfelt condolences on the passing of this special angel, Cori. I worked with Cori through One Good Deed and also called on Cori for advice as I was helping my mother-in-law during the last years of her life. Cori was knowledgable and always looking for the best solutions to any challenges. She was great to work with, and our community is stronger for her efforts and her heart. --Sue Rothstein
