Marvin Bertram Cohen, born October 26, 1934 in Macon, Georgia, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of July 30, 2017. Loving husband of 60 years to Sandra Cohen and father to their daughter, Lori Cohen Sobel (Stuart) and son, Kent Isaac Cohen (Lisa). “Pops” was the best grandfather to Emilie Sobel, Noah Sobel, Miles Cohen, Lindsey Cohen and Harris Cohen, attending and reveling in all of his children and grandchildren’s life events and accomplishments. Graduating Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 1956, he maintained life-long bonds with his AEPi fraternity brothers for whom he served as Master. He developed enduring friendships with hundreds of others, in and beyond Atlanta, whose lives were enriched by his love. For fifty years, he was a 32° Scottish Rite Freemason. Serving as a navigator in the US Air Force, he rose to the rank of captain. Doing his duty as a military paymaster, he reminds all of the time he missed a pay day to be present at the birth of Lori. From the earliest times, his life was dedicated to family. His entire life was especially devoted to Sandy, as they enjoyed constant companionship, friends and travel, always to be found dancing Wednesday nights away at Johnny’s Hideaway. Through his constant involvement and attention, he taught his family to love, to honor and to care for one another. He leaves, as his legacy, that family, bound to each other by his unconditional love. Sign online guest book at In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The American Cancer Society. Funeral will take place on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:30 am, at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Road, N.W., Atlanta, Georgia. Arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta (770) 451-4999.

Sandra. At times like this there are really no words that can make a difference. It is the ultimate acknowledgement that in death we feel the reality of being helpless, the ultimate out of control. When I think of a word that describes Marvin, what comes up is Decent. He was such a decent man. In my vocabulary it is the ultimate compliment! My best to you and your family. Sid

Simply put, Marvin was a wonderful man. We had great fun arguing politics - Marvin being an honest-to-god Republican and Kathy and I being part of a disappearing tribe, Democrats. There is no question we loved him. Shalom, dear man.

Marvin was a boyhood friend of mine at Lanier High school in Macon where we also were fraternity brothers. We double dated at frat dances because he had a car (a Studebaker as I recall) and I did not! I was pleased to see him at a couple of class reunions and I remember him most positively. My condolences to the family on his loss.
