I am so sorry to hear the sad news about the death of George. My name is Jacob Netz and I am writing from Israel. I first met George in 1980. We shared several graduate courses in Operations Research at the University of Alabama. George used to come to my home in Tuscaloosa to work on our homework and on computer programs - an area that George was an expert. George was a very special person and I have always been proud to call him my friend. Following my graduation in 1982, I returned to Israel, and from then until mid-July 2017, George and I kept in touch even when George was in Haiti and I was in Australia. At the beginning, we had contacted by phone and letters and later, by phone and e-mails. I visited George twice in Atlanta and George visited me in Israel. Although we live far away from each other, George was a friend. George had wide knowledge in many areas. He not only asked questions, but also actively seek out the answers. George regularly asked me about things in Israel, and Judaism was important to him. When George did not respond to my last two e-mails, I called his cell phone on Aug. 3rd and left a message that I'm concerned. As I did not get a reply, I searched the Internet and found the sad news that George passed away on July 21st. I know that George’s family and friends will miss him and so will I. I played many racquetball games with George and we attempted a business deal. I will always remember George for his efforts to include everyone on the racquetball courts, he made sure no one was left out. I was very fond of him and will miss him very much. Alton Reynolds & Essy Freed.

We are so sad to hear of George's passing. We didn't know him well but he was always a fixture at our Passover and Rosh Hashanah table. Holidays will not feel the same without him.
