  • OBITUARY:
June Hinerfeld Restler, age 75, Atlanta, died April 22, 2017. June was born in Rockville Centre, NY and a proud graduate of Southside High School. A lifelong love of art was further nurtured at the University of Cincinnati. She went on to receive her undergraduate degree from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. June continued to pursue a graduate program in Education at The University of Pennsylvania/ Columbia University. Upon graduation she began her career as a lifelong educator. During her time in New York she reconnected with her childhood friend, Donald Restler. They quickly fell in love and started a life together. In 1973, the young couple relocated to Atlanta. Lacking a connection with a synagogue, June and Don, along with several families, founded Temple Emanu-El in their basement. A love of children led June to teaching and she spent many years at High Meadows School and Camp. She later joined Crestwood and Chattahoochee High Schools as a library paraprofessional. All who were fortunate enough to meet June know that her zest for life and love of people were immeasurable. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone into her life and home. An accomplished painter, her work adorns the homes of many of her family and friends. June-June will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Donald Restler; son, John (Dahlia) Restler, Milton, GA; son, Kevin (Cherie) Restler, Atlanta, GA; brother, Stewart Hinerfeld, Ames, IA; grandchildren: Emily (19), Hannah (17) and Claudia (11). June was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph B. Hinerfeld, of blessed memory. Sign online guest book at www.edressler.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth Tikvah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10:30 am at Temple Beth Tikvah, 9955 Coleman Road, Roswell, GA 30075. Rabbi Alexandria Shuval-Weiner will officiate. Interment to follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta (770) 451-4999.

I didn't know June Restler personally, but I know and love her son John. She had to have been a good and loving mother to raise such a wonderful human being as John. My sincere condolences to the Restler family.
