  • OBITUARY:
Alan H. Gould passed away on February 5, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Mimi Herman Gould, son, David Gould, daughters, Katie Currie and Jenny Gould, and only grandchild, Jessica Currie. He was preceded in death by his parents Sally and Peter Gould and son, Howard Gould. Alan was born in Syracuse, NY on February 7, 1925 and grew up in Rochester. He attended the University of Rochester and received an appointment to West Point in 1944, where he graduated from the Military Academy in 1947. Captain Gould was an accomplished musician. While at West Point, he was asked to develop the West Point Glee Club and went on to direct the Jewish Choir. Following graduation, he joined the Army Air Force and received his wings at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He then served in the Air Force for 11 years having been stationed in 11 bases in the U.S. and Newfoundland. He served in the Korean War as a pilot of a B-29 plane. In 1953, he was stationed at Dobbins Air Force Base, however, because of Mimiís ill health, resigned his commission; Atlanta became their home at this time. He joined with his classmate, Bernie Abrams, of Abramís Industries and developed the Abramís Fixture Manufacturing Company. Soon after settling, he became involved with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw and continued his singing career for 27 years. He was selected to present the Kennedy Center Award to Robert Shaw at Symphony Hall in 1991. Alan was actively involved in community service including the Kiwanis Club, Bínai Bírith, and Temple Sinai. Sign on-line guestbook: www.edressler.com. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Temple Sinai, 5645 Dupree Dr., Sandy Springs, GA 30327. Rabbi Brad Levenberg will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Dresslerís Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999

Oh Mimi and sweet girls, your family had my heart at hello back in 1972 and for me to say that I am so very lucky to have gotten to love all of you, but especially your sweet Alan. Such a kind and caring man, always willing to listen, with an ever ready smile and kindness beyond words. My heart and love is with each of you.

Alan may have been one of the first people I met when I joined the Atlanta Symphony Chorus in 1974. He remained a colleague and a friend until he retired in 1997. We shared a military background. That's when I learned that he had formed the first chorus at the Military Academy and had been a B-29 pilot. Alan was accomplished in music, aeronautics and business and was a person I am so glad I got to know. Condolences to his family upon his passing.

I was a childhood friend of Alan's son Howard and remember quite pleasantly staying over at the home on Peachtree Battle Avenue. Fsst forward over 40 years and I remet the family when I stopped at Alan's home in response to a movingestate sale. I was so surprised to learn whose home I was now in. It was great to talk to him and Mimi. I met Alan's sister Jenny who was in charge of the sale and we had a very nice chat. I wanted to attend the funeral today but I had a medical procedure that I could not postpone. I send my condolences to the family especially Mimi and Jenny.

That beautiful voice is stilled! To enter heaven's gate two days before his 92nd birthday was a glorious home-coming. I have very fond memories of Alan and know how much he will be missed. Mimi, I know just where you are on life's journey, my beloved John left this world on May 27th, 2015, and my journey without him has been robbed of much of its joy. Blessings to you and all you hold dear. Sarah Edwards

I was saddened to read about Alan's passing. For as long as I can remember, Alan and Mimi were part of the West Point Society of Atlanta's scene. Even when it became difficult for Alan to attend events, he was still interested in what was going on and managed to get to as many activities as possible. The WPSA family is grateful for his many contributions and will miss him. May our loving God give you comfort and peace, Mimi, and may your wonderful memories bring smiles through your tears.

Dearest Mimi, Jenny, and family- I am so very saddened by this news. It is difficult to think of Alan without picturing his great smile and thinking of the stories he would tell. His warmth and humor could fill a room. I treasure the memories of time spent with you all. Much love, Eli

For 3+ years every Monday on our way to "Guys & Dolls we were together we laughed, told stories and then did our favorite thing. Eat.. If I could have written a book it would have been a bestseller. Your school stories, West Point, business all could have filled a great book. But, I'm lucky, it's in my head. The folks from "Guys & Dolls will miss your deep voice. Your friends will miss you, your family will miss you more than you could imagine. And I will miss you because you forever will be 'my buddy'.
